Uttar Pradesh: 2 accused raised Rs 1.3cr to fund June 3 Kanpur violence, says SIT

KANPUR: Police investigations have revealed that builder Haji Wasi and the main accused of June 3 violence Hayat Zafar Hashmi had raised Rs 1.30 crore by selling properties for funding the rioters of June 3 violence in the city.
Out of this, stone-pelters and petrol bombers were given Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 each, respectively, to incite violence in Kanpur, says special investigation team (SIT) formed to probe the case. A case diary has been filed by public prosecutor Dinesh Agarwal in this regard.

According to the investigation of the SIT, the miscreants were given money to spread violence. The case diary states that the stone-pelters were allegedly given Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. Those who used petrol bombs during the riots were reportedly paid Rs 5,000.
The SIT has also come to know that for paying money to the rioters, Wasi had sold two properties worth Rs 34 lakh a day before the ruckus. The SIT is busy digging out more details.
According to sleuths probing the case, Wasi had sold two properties worth Rs 33.8 lakh on June 2. He had earlier sold three other properties -- one worth Rs 35 lakh (April 2), the second worth Rs 17 lakh (February 7) and another worth Rs 16.75 lakh (December 20).
On the other hand, Hashmi had sold two properties worth Rs 14 lakh on May 24, Rs 10 lakh on January 11 and Rs 7 lakh on December 10.
The police have sought a report by contacting the concerned departments to investigate all these properties.
The SIT also said that the miscreants were assured of free legal aid, if caught. It has been told in the case diary that those taking part in the violence had been trained for seven to nine days.
More than 60 people have been arrested so far in the June 3 violence that erupted after Friday prayers following a call to close down the shops to protest against the remarks made on the Prophet by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, at the Parade and its adjoining areas, including Nai Sadak.
