The three ancient lakes in Mira-Bhayandar are all set to get a major facelift as the state government gave its nod for funds for the renovation and beautification of these spots. The lakes are located in the revenue villages including Kashimira, Goddev and Navghar which fall under the jurisdiction of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC).
The funds will also be used to create major attractions at these lakes by adding musical fountains that would create a theatrical spectacle with music, light and water, through a range of pre-programmable water jets controlled by a computer.
“After a request to allocate funds amounting Rs 25 crore for the project, the state's urban development department (UDD) has given its nod to disburse Rs 5 crore in the first phase under the special provision scheme for the development of basic amenities in the region,” Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik who represents the Owala-Majiwada assembly segment said, adding that the musical fountains will be an evening delight.
While the state government will bear the entire expenses towards the completion of the project, the MBMC will be the executing and maintaining authority.
Plans are afoot to install stateof-the-art musical fountains so that special evening shows and storytelling sessions about historic places in the Mira-Bhayandar can be arranged. There will also be a display of fountain water dancing to musical beats, said an official.
He added that online tenders for the project will be floated soon. The UDD recently issued a government resolution (GR) in context to the funding allocations.
