Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress leadership on Wednesday slammed the new Ashok Stambh inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.
TMC state general secretary and spokesperson, Kunal Ghosh said that the new lions in the new Ashok Stambh are more ‘ferocious’.
“The old statue depicted dignity, peace but in the new statue, the lions are ferocious. It can depict the new condition of India under the present Central government. Below the new statue ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is also not written,” said Ghosh.
TMC Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen slammed Modi for unveiling the statue despite the Speaker of the Lok Sabha being present.
“India is said to be a country with people of all faiths. After the unveiling of the statue there was no need of doing puja. None from the opposition parties were invited to the ceremony. Through this does the Central government try to show that there is no place for the opposition,” questioned Sen.
TMC MLA and Assembly Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay said that there is ‘Name and Emblem Act’ under which anyone ‘defaming’ the national emblem and song can be held guilty.
Bandhopadhyay also alleged that the present BJP led Central government ‘wants’ to change History.
Countering the claims of Trinamool Congress, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said that the teeth of lions will always be out.
“Under Modi, India is reaching new heights of success. This shows that no one can mess with India under the Modi government. Even with Goddess Durga the lions come with teeth out,” said Majumdar.
BJP national vice president Dilip Ghosh alleged that oppositions are ‘jealous’ of the ‘developmental’ works done by the BJP government.
