Mysuru: Kannada Development Authority chairman T S Nagabharana on Tuesday directed the district administration to remove English nameplates from establishments in the city within a week.
During a review meeting at the DC’s office here on the implementation of Kannada, Nagabharana took information from the officials about the plan of action.
The chairman said the authority has received complaints from the public about the increased use of English nameplates. He told the officials that there is no issue if the establishments have nameplates in both English and Kannada. Institutions having only English boards have to be removed.
During the meeting, the chairman asked the officials why no action has been taken with regard to the removal of 174 English nameboards despite the district awareness committee giving a report in this regard.
Authority secretary Santhosh, additional deputy commissioner Manjunatha Swamy and Kannada and culture department assistant director Sudharshan were present.
