In draft charges proposed against the accused by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) recently in the drugs case related to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the agency has said that actor Rhea Chakraborty, his partner at the time, had received many deliveries of ganja from others and handed these to Rajput, besides making payment for these deliveries, thereby committing offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
It has said that she received deliveries of ganja from Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda, her brother Showik Chakraborty, the house staff Dipesh Sawant and others. All three were also arrested and are accused in the case, now on bail.
The agency submitted the draft charges on June 22 against 35 accused - including Showik. Draft charges are the charges the agency proposes for the court to frame against the accused to stand trial. The court decides based on evidence if there is sufficient material for the accused to be tried for the offences invoked.
The NCB has said she made payments for those deliveries at the instance Showik and Sushant between Mar 2020 to Sep 2020 and thereby committed offences under the NDPS law. It has invoked the stringent provision of Sec 27A of the Act pertaining to illicit trafficking and harbouring offenders, which could attract a minimum of 10 years imprisonment up to 20 years in prison.
The agency had filed a voluminous 11,700 page chargesheet last March. It has retained the charges in the chargesheet.
