Thiruvananthapuram: Scrap collector held for murder

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kazhakkoottam police on Monday arrested scrap collector Vijayakumar (48) in connection with the death of K Bhuvanachandran (65) of Nettayakonam.
Bhuvanachandran had died after he was kicked in the stomach by Vijayakumar following an argument over spitting on the road at Kazhakkoottam on Sunday.
Vijayakumar is a resident of Kundara in Kollam. The police nabbed him from a shop near his sister’s residence at Ashtamudi in Vellimon.
Police said the postmortem report of Bhuvanachandran showed that his spleen was damaged in the kick, resulting in the death.
Vijayakumar has cases registered against him at Anchalumoodu police station. As Vijayakumar did not have a phone, police had a hard time tracking him down.
Police said the incident happened when Bhuvanachandran was talking to a street vendor on the side of the national highway. Vijayakumar allegedly spat in front of them and Bhuvanachandran questioned it. It led to a heated argument and Vijayakumar kicked his stomach.
