As the situation is coming back to normalcy in the city post-Covid pandemic, the Mumbai Metro One corridor, running between Ghatkopar and Versova, has attained 3.15 lakh ridership.
The daily ridership of the metro before the pandemic was four lakh. The Mumbai Metro One is yet to attain pre-pandemic ridership so far, however, it is seeing a gradual increase in footfall.
During the pandemic, the R-Infra-led Mumbai Metro One remained non-operational for 211 days between March 22, 2020, and Oct 18, 2020. After the resumption of services on day 1, it registered a ridership of only 12,738 and gradually it grew to reach over one lakh on weekdays of February -March 2021.
According to the Mumbai Metro One, due to restrictions imposed during the second wave of Covid (April – May 2021), the weekday ridership dropped below 50,000.
However, with relaxation in travel restrictions, ridership began to improve from the 2nd half of July 2021 and gained back to one lakh during the weekdays of the later part of August 2021. From the beginning of December 2021, the weekday ridership of Mumbai Metro One improved to around two lakh.
The metro services start at 6:30 am from both ends and the last train from Versova at 11:10 pm and from Ghatkopar at 11:25 pm. Currently, 326 trips on weekdays with a service frequency of four minutes during peak hours and 6-9 minutes during off-peak hours are being operated.
Moreover, based on the reopening of offices, schools and colleges, metro one is expecting weekday ridership to cross 325,000 by end of this month, the Mumbai Metro One stated.
