Four unidentified men entered the premises and wiped out a chopper to scare the staff and patients at the hospital and robbed them of their valuables, police said.
THANE: In a shocking incident, four knife-wielding men robbed hospital staff, patients and later locked them into a room before robbing a doctor couple family residing on the second floor of the hospital in Thane district's Ambernath, on Monday late night.
The doctor couple identified as Harish and Usha Lapsia were robbed of valuables worth Rs 1.5 crore around 11.30pm. The couple runs Usha Nursing Home hospital in Kansai area of Ambernath.
Police said that the four robbers, who came into car, first entered into the hospital where they threatened a nurse and hospital staff using knife. The robbers took their mobile phones and locked them into room with four to five patients inside. Later, the accused went on the second floor where the doctor couple reside.
Police said that at time of incident, Dr Usha was inside the house while her husband Harish was on a visit to another private hospital in the city.
Showing a knife, the robbers threatened Dr Usha and fled with a locker with valuables worth over Rs 1.5 crore, including 1kg gold ornaments and diamond ornaments
The accused also took the DVR of the CCTV footage to avoid get caught in camera footage.
After robbers fled, Dr Usha called neighbours from the area for help who open the door and informed local Shivaji Nagar police station.
