Heavy rain in 11 dists from today

Bhubaneswar: The weatherman on Monday issued a yellow warning of heavy rainfall in 11 districts of the state for the next two days from Tuesday.
The districts include Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Puri, Khurda and Balasore. Thereafter the intensity of rain would increase over the state from Thursday but the IMD issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in about five districts.
The low pressure area which formed over the Odisha coast on Saturday is likely to become more marked within two days. Besides, the IMD, in its extended forecast for two weeks till July 21, hinted that another low pressure area, the third one of the monsoon, was likely to form towards the end of this week triggering chances of widespread rain.
The office of the special relief commissioner (SRC), in the wake of the heavy rain warning, asked the district collectors to be on alert.
Umashankar Das, scientist of the regional IMD centre, said the rainfall intensity would increase by Friday due to favourable conditions.
Several places in the state on Monday continued to experience light to moderate rain under the influence of the present low pressure area, now lying over the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast. Daitari in Keonjhar district received the highest 80 mm rainfall in the state in the past 24 hours.
The overall rainfall deficit in the state from June till date has reduced to 15%, Das said. According to Das, rainfall in 18 out of 30 districts has improved to normal while in one more it was above normal.
