Ludhiana: The Sadar police booked at least 45 residents of ward 31 on Sunday for staging a protest outside the house of Aam Aadmi Party’s Ludhiana South legislator Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina at Satjot Nagar against erratic power supply and contaminated drinking water in the area.
The residents alleged that for the past two weeks, they had been facing frequent power cuts, which had caused a shortage of drinking water buy shutting down the tube-wells. Despite repeated complaints, no one had heard their pleas, so they had to stage a protest outside the MLA’s house.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Subhash Chand of the Sadar police station claimed to have received a complaint from the MLA tha the protesting public had cordoned her house and not allowed her to step outside. She also alleged that the protesters had also blaocked traffic on the road outside her house.
The ASI added that a case under sections 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 283 (obstructiing or endangering a public line of navigation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been lodged against unidentified accused.
