The NSE Nifty index ended the session 157.7 points down at 16058.3, while BSE Sensex fell 508.62 points to 53886.61.
In the Nifty index, NTPC Ltd.(up 1.59 per cent), .(up 0.54 per cent), & Special Economic Zone Ltd.(up 0.37 per cent), .(up 0.37 per cent) and .(up 0.28 per cent) stood among the top gainers.
On the other hand, .(down 3.05 per cent), .(down 2.61 per cent), .(down 2.35 per cent), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.(down 2.30 per cent) and .(down 1.97 per cent) were among the top losers of the day.
