Coimbatore: A 26-year-old man entered a car showroom at Lakshmi Mills Junction on Monday and tried to murder a woman staff. The woman refused to reciprocate his love for her. Her health condition is stable, a police officer said.
The Race Course police said Subasri, 21, from Rice Mill Road at Kuniyamuthur, and S Dinesh, a photographer from SK Garden in Salem, became friends via Instagram two and a half-years ago. “Dinesh often visited Coimbatore to meet her. He fell in love with her and asked her to accept his love. Subasri, however, refused to do so and blocked his mobile number two months ago,” the officer said.
Around 9am on Monday, Dinesh entered the showroom and started arguing with Subasri. “He suddenly took a knife from his pant pocket and stabbed her on neck, shoulder and face. When he tried to escape from the spot, other staff members managed to catch him. They handed him over to us.”
Police registered a case against him under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him. Police have also collected CCTV footage from the showroom. The accused was remanded in judicial custody and later lodged at the Coimbatore central prison.
