Ranchi/ Deoghar: Deoghar will turn into a fortress on Tuesday with around 10,000 police personnel deployed to ensure foolproof security during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the temple town. The inner security ring of the PM will be provided by the special protection group (SPG).
Inspector general (operations) and state police spokesperson Amol Homkar said additional director general (operations) Sanjay Lathekar along with an inspector general, two deputy inspector generals, 11 superintendents of police, 40 deputy superintendents of police, 800 sub-inspectors, and 7,000 police personnel would be deployed at sensitive places.
“Units of the anti-terrorism squad, bomb detection and disposal squad, rapid action force, rapid action police, central reserve police force, national security guard, SPG, anti-sabotage squad, sniffer dog squad and anti-drone group will also be positioned at the venues scheduled for PM’s visit.”
The inner security cover would be manned by SPG personnel, while the outer security layers would be the responsibility of the state police, he added.
IPS officers including Priyadarshi Alok, Kishore Kaushal, Nidhi Dwivedi, Rishabh Kumar Jha, Ajit Peter Dungdung, Mohammad Arshi, Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Dhananjay Kumar Singh, Ashwini Kumar Sinha, Vinit Kumar, and Harish Bin Jama have been delegated the responsibility to ensure PM’s safety while in Deoghar.
Deputy superintendent of police and inspector-rank police officers have also been allotted duty at strategic locations in and around the venues — the Deoghar airport, AIIMS, Deoghar College, and the Babadham temple — that the PM would frequent.
The SPG, being headed by an IG-rank officer, took command of the security affairs of the PM’s Deoghar visit. It organised meetings for coordination among different agencies.
Notably, CM and DGP Niraj Sinha reviewed the security arrangement. Taking lessons from the security breaches of Modi in Punjab, the Jharkhand government, also a non-BJP coalition, has been leaving no stone unturned.
