The special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Tuesday extended the remand of three accused, including two main accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case of Udaipur till July 16, while sending four other accused behind the bars.
All the seven accused were produced before the court by the NIA with tight security arrangements.
Hearing the case, the court extended the remand of the main accused, Riaz Akhtari, Ghouse Mohammad and Farhad Mohammad Sheikh, till July 16, whereas the other four, Mohammad Mohsin, Wasim Ali, Asif and Mohsin have been sent to judicial custody till August 1.
Farhad Mohammad Sheikh was arrested by the NIA on July 10th, while Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad were arrested on June 28th.
"The court extended remands of Ghouse Mohammad, Riaz and Farhad till July 16. They will be under the NIA custody whereas the four other accused have been sent to jail till August 1," said special public prosecutor T P Sharma.
The court had earlier remanded NIA custody to the accused till July 12.
Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor was killed by Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad at his shop on June 28 in Udaipur's Dhan Mandi police station area for showing support to sacked BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma who had made derogatory remarks against the Prophet.
The accused had posted a video of the crime on social media after beheading Kanhaiya Lal. Both Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad were nabbed in Rajsamand hours after the crime.
Two days later, on June 30, other accused in the case, Mohsin and Asif were also arrested. They were allegedly involved in the conspiracy of the killing and had conducted a recce of Kanhaiya's shop.
The NIA later arrested Mohammad Mohsin and Wasim Ali on different dates.
