Thane: A car sank into Phadkepada Lake in Thane on Monday night, after it skidded off the adjoining road that was water-logged because of heavy rain. The 28-year-old behind the wheel was unable to fathom where the road ended, as the water level on the street was the same as that of the lake. The incident occurred around 10.46pm on Monday. Luckily, the driver, Yusuf Pathan, was rescued by the locals.
Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Avinash Sawant said, “We received a complaint at the disaster management cell room on Monday, July 11, around 10.46pm about a car owned by Reza Enterprises, along with its driver, Yusuf Pathan, 28, a resident of Chembur, sinking in Phadkepada lake in Thane. Though the lake is barricaded, with the incessant rain, the water on the road was at the same level as the lake and the driver was not able to gauge where the road ended and his vehicle slipped into the lake. Our disaster management cell team, along with fire brigade personnel reached the spot with one fire vehicle and one rescue vehicle.”
“Pathan was safely pulled out of the lake by the locals and he informed us that there was no one else in the vehicle. No casualty was reported,” Sawant added.
Eventually, Shilphata Police, disaster management and fire station personnel pulled out the four-wheeler from the lake with the help of a rope and returned it to the driver.
