AHMEDABAD: The rain bounty has resulted in an increase of water volume in the state’s 207 dams by 1,271 million cubic metres (MCM). Moreover, 13 dams are 90% full.
Taken together, the 207 dams are 40.27% full, the state government said on Monday. Sardar Sarovar dam is 45.37% full with 4,292.39 MCM of water.
Eight dams have been put on high alert and seven others have been put on watch. The 207 dams have the combined storage of 19,643.43 MCM. As on July 11, they contained 9,372.41 MCM of water.
A statement of the water supply department said that eight dams of the state have reached 100% capacity; 18 are between 70% and 100% full; and 25 are between 50% and 70% full.
But 101 dams still have less than 25% of their capacity. The government said that water levels of the dams, especially those which are in the districts where heavy rainfall has been forecast, are being monitored closely.
The dams that are being monitored include Kankawati, Jangdia, Mitti, and Beracghia in Abdasa, Gajansar in Nakhatrana, Kalaghoda in Mundra, Sanandro and Godhatad in Lakhpat, Und-III in Kalavad, Bagad in Mahuva, and Don in Mandvi.
The government data reveals that 20 dams in Kutch are 51% full against their capacity of 332.27 MCM. The 141 dams in Saurashtra have reported an increase of 333.77 MCM.
Water in Narmada dam was at the 114.52 metre level before the heavy spells of rain; now it is at 115.62 metres.
