MANGALURU: The Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivrudhi Samiti has requested that Mumbai-Thokur Special train service be extended from Thokur to Mangaluru Central /Mangaluru Junction.
In a letter to the divisional railway manager, Palakkad railway division, Southern Railway, Samiti president Hanumantha Kamath said Konkan Railway has decided to operate a special train (daily) service between Mumbai and Thokur in association with Central Railway for Ganesha Chaturthi. As per the notification issued by Konkan Railway, the said special service would operate between August 14 to September 13. As per the schedule, train number 01153 LTT Mumbai-Thokur daily special will reach Thokur at 4.30pm and train number 01154 Thokur-Mumbai special train will leave from Thokur at 7.30pm, he said.
Kamath said, “While being grateful for the service, we are disappointed that the special train will not touch Mangaluru and will terminate at Thokur station. Since there is no proper local transport available at Thokur to reach Mangaluru and surrounding areas, passengers may find it inconvenient to reach the destination. If the train touches Mangaluru Junction, it would be a boon for passengers from Puttur as they can get a connecting train - Mangaluru -Puttur passenger at 6.10pm to reach their final destinations.’’
At present, the path of the Mangaluru Junction-Thokur section is doubled. At Mangaluru Junction, after the departure of train No 12134 MAJN-CSTM Express at 4.30pm and train number 16515 YPR-KAWR tri-weekly day express at 4.45pm, the platform is free to receive this train at 5pm. Hence, the special train, after arriving at Thokur at 4.30pm, can be sent towards Mangaluru junction at 4.40pm and can be received at 5.15pm, without affecting the movement of aforesaid existing trains. The train moving towards Mumbai can leave at 6.55pm and be handed over at Thokur at the scheduled time of 7.30pm, he said. TNN
