Coimbatore: Even as the city is reporting 70 to 80 new Covid-19 cases every day, there are no clusters here, said Dr Pradeep Vasudeva Krishna Kumar, who recently assumed charge as the city health.
Pradeep said most of the infections are reported among family members and a few close contacts. “So there are no micro containment or containment zones in the city. West, central and north zones are reporting slightly more cases compared to other zones.”
On an average 500 tests are being conducted in a day. As of Monday, there are 457 active cases in the city, of which 402 people are in home isolation, he said. “We call up people in home isolation through the recently opened Covid-19 control room, and guide them on treatment. Almost all of them get cured without any issues.”
He said the health department is focusing on improving the vaccination coverage among different age groups. “People are reluctant to take precaution doses. We are going to administer precaution doses to 5,814 conservancy workers. Subsequently, all other corporation staff will be covered,” Pradeep said.
At present, non-compliance of mask norms is a major concern for the health department, he said. “Sanitary inspectors were told to enforce the mask rules strictly.”
