RANCHI: Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on Tuesday underlined the importance of infrastructure projects in boosting the economy of any region.
While dedicating 13 different projects — including Deoghar airport, indoor facility at AIIMS, several road projects in the state, LPG bottling plant etc and laying foundation of 12 infrastructure projects, collectively worth Rs 16,800 crore from temple town Deoghar on Tuesday — he spoke only about the projects.
Modi, in his ten-minute speech, clarified that though the projects have roots in
Jharkhand, they are going to collectively boost the economy of eastern India.
"We believe in the development of a nation through the development of states. Jharkhand has been connected with highway, railways, airway and waterway to other parts of the country. With the 13 projects unveiled today, Jharkhand would not only be connected to Bihar and West Bengal, but other parts of the country as well," PM Modi said.
He added that Mizachowki to Farakka four-lane would bring modern amenities to the entire Santhal Pargana.
"Palama-Gumla highway would improve connectivity with Chhatisgarh. Train transport has improved and these would collectively bring industrial boost to Jharkhand," he said.
The prime minister said that connectivity gives impetus to industrial activities and transportation of raw material thereby giving opportunities to local entrepreneurs as well. He said that apart from connectivity, the Centre is also focusing on places of faith. Deoghar is one such region identified to be developed as a hub for spiritual tourism," he said.
Modi later joined a 12-km-long road show from the airport to Baba Baidyanathdham temple, waving to people standing all through the route on either side of the road.
Participating in a special worship arranged by the local Panda, Modi later addressed a public gathering at the Deoghar college ground where he said that "shortcut politics based on appeasement can destroy the nation".
"Those looking for short-cut measures would not focus on building airports and roads. We have brought in a work culture in which after laying the foundation stone of any project, the same is inaugurated by the government. Laying the foundation is not our idea, we want to bring changes for the betterment of people," the PM said.
