A 19-year-old girl who had run away from her Hyderabad residence was reunited with her family on Sunday.
According to the Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP), the girl was seen roaming around the Kalyan railway station at around 3 a.m. on Friday by a team of patrolling personnel.
"Her body language indicated that she was clueless and scared. She did not fit the behaviour of a local and this made her suspicious. Not wanting her to fall prey to any criminal elements or other misfortunes, our personnel brought her to the police station. She was very disturbed and for the first few hours, she could not even tell us where she was from," said senior police inspector Avinash Andhale, Kalyan GRP.
The police then gave her food and water and let her catch some sleep, after which they began inquiries afresh on Saturday morning. After some initial resistance, the girl, who gave her name as Varshili Sakireddy, finally told them the truth.
"She had fled from her residence as she was disturbed due to certain reasons, and caught the first train she saw from Hyderabad, which brought her to Kalyan. She had no clue what she was going to do next," Andhale said.
The police then sent her to a women's shelter run by a Non-Government Organisation in Ulhasnagar and contacted her family to apprise them of the situation. They immediately left for Kalyan and on Sunday, with a No Objection Certificate from the GRP, took her into their custody from the shelter home. The entire family flew back to Hyderabad on Sunday, officials said.
