GUWAHATI: A social activist, who dressed up as Lord
Shiva for a skit on price rise, was arrested and charged with hurting religious sentiments, before
Assam’s chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, came to his rescue.
Several Hindu groups led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) lodged a complaint with the police after a video of the activist, Birinchi Bora, riding a bike, with a woman, dressed as Goddess
Parvati, went viral.
In the short street play, Birinchi dressed as Lord Shiva, gets into an argument with the woman, portraying Parvati, after the motorcycle runs out of fuel.
"Petrol prices per litre have gone up to Rs 100. I bought 250 ml of petrol somehow to take you to your father's home. How can I be blamed if the fuel tank has become empty in the middle of the road," Birinchi replies to his pillion rider, as curious onlookers broke into laughter.
Birinchi ultimately gives a clarion call to the audiences assembled for the mobile nukkad natak to intensify protests against the Modi government for a solution from the price rise.
He tried to convince Parvati that in the name of acche-din, the government failed in all sectors, starting from providing jobs to controlling the prices of medicines.
