Panchkula: The Section 144 imposed near the Ghaggar and around 13 other areas near the water in view of the monsoon has not had much effect. A few people were spotted fishing near the river despite the restrictions imposed for public safety.
In view of the rise in water level in the Ghaggar river, DCP Surinder Pal Singh imposed Section 144 on 13 locations till September 30. He warned that any person venturing near the rivers or Kaushalya dam would be booked under Section 188 of the IPC.
In his orders issued on June 30, the DCP pointed out that people had been seen trying to enter river beds of Ghaggar, Sirsa, Jhajjra, Tagri and Kaushalaya dam and its distributaries individually or collectively. He said that bunds had been made on river banks, which could cause water to flow with force in any direction and form eddies. Earlier, rainfall again caused waterlogging at Buddanpur village on Sunday morning. Village residents alleged roads have not been repaired in their village after laying of underground pipes and potholes have been submerged in rainwater, making the roads dangerous for commuters.
