BHUBANESWAR: Amid continuous rise in Covid cases, a large number of children in the city are suffering from cold and fever in rainy and humid weather conditions.
Several schools here have said around four to five children remained absent in each class, especially from Class I to V, last week.

Experts said extra care needs to be taken for children as Covid-19 cases are on the rise yet again.
“My daughter is suffering from runny nose, cough and fever. In her class, four to five other children had fever and were absent. Since it is very difficult for teachers to ensure that all students keep their masks on and maintain social distancing during the entire school time, it has become a matter of concern. School authorities expressed helplessness, citing lack of space,” said Archana Subudhi, parent of a Class-V student.
Health experts said children develop immunity through frequent exposure to bacteria and viruses. But as they remained confined at home for the past two years due to Covid, their immunity level has reduced significantly.
“Cold, cough and viral fever also spread physical contact with those already having infections. Parents need not worry about the spread of Covid among children as it is less lethal among them,” said Dr Neeraj Mishra, a senior physician.
Meanwhile, the state health department has asked all city schools to ask those suffering from cough, cold and fever not to attend classes.
