GREATER NOIDA: A 21-year-old woman’s decomposed body was found in a sack by police on Saturday night in a house in Sector Gama 1, Greater Noida.
Police said the deceased, Avni alias Pooja Bharti from Bihar, was preparing to crack an exam for a government job. She lived on the third floor of the building while the house owner lived on the ground floor.
Anil Kumar, the SHO of Beta-2 police station, said that around 10 pm on Saturday, the house owner informed the police about a foul smell from the third floor.
“The flat had remained locked for the last few days before police reached and broke it. Cops saw a tied-up sack lying in the drawing-room of the 2BHK flat. They found the decomposed body inside it. The body was sent for a postmortem. The autopsy report will tell us how she died,” he said.
“Initial investigation revealed the woman was living with Ashish Ranjan, who she introduced as her cousin to the house owner. Ranjan is a B-Tech student in a private college in Greater Noida. So far, we know that the woman was his maternal aunt (‘mausi’). They may have been in a relationship, but we are talking to the family to get more details. Ranjan is absconding ,” the SHO said.
A case against Ranjan under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder) has been lodged in the Beta-2 police station. Police are checking the CCTV footage from nearby areas.
Police said the duo had rented the house ten months ago and hardly got any visitors, adding that prima facie, the woman had been dead for three to four days.
The couple likely had a fight about their relationship, after which the man killed the woman, said officers.
