Bhubaneswar: Around 400 devotees from across the UK and Europe participated in the Bahuda Yatra of Shri Ram Mandir, Southall, on Saturday, marking the culmination of the nine-day Rath Yatra in
London.
Amid the singing of bhajans and loud cries of “Hari Bol” and “Jai Jagannath”, the chariot was pulled by the devotees through the streets of Southall to the temple abode. The festival was organised for the first time in London by Shree Jagannatha Society UK (SJSUK).
“Devotees were allowed darshan and treated to delicious chhappan bhog prasad that included delicacies like chhena taadia, poda pitha and khiramohana prepared by women members of SJSUK. I felt I was transferred to Puri during the celebrations,” said Jayashree Nanda, one of the members.
The chhera pahanra or ceremonial sweeping of chariot floor was performed by Virendra Sharma, member, House of Commons from Ealing-Southall, Umesh Sharma, chairperson, Shri Ram Mandir, and Loknath Mishra, managing director and CEO of ICICI Bank UK PLC.
