Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Amid the alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, Indore continued to witness intermittent showers on Monday morning. The Regional Meteorological Department officials have sounded ‘Orange’ alert for Indore, Ujjain, and other nearby districts to get isolated heavy to very heavy rain with thunder and lightning.
Citizens woke up to a rainy morning as the showers with different intensity continued since Sunday night. As much as 17.2 mm rainfall was recorded in the city from Sunday night to Monday morning with which the total amount of rainfall in the city reached 249.8 mm i.e. 9.48 inches.
The meteorological department officials said that Indore district has received about five percent excess rainfall as it has received 219.9 mm till July 10 which was about 10 mm more than the normal rainfall in this period that is 209.4 mm.
“The low pressure area over coastal areas of south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood now lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast with the associated cyclonic circulation. It is very likely to become more marked during the next 48 hours. Similarly, the monsoon trough now passes through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Damoh, Pendra Road, Balangir, centre of low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast and thence south eastwards to East Central Bay of Bengal,” Met officials said adding “Under the influence of these conditions, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected for two days while isolated heavy falls would continue till July 15.”
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature on Sunday was 30 degrees Celsius and minimum was 21.6 degrees Celsius which was one degree Celsius below normal.
