The Lakhimpur court on Monday has sent Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair to 14-day judicial custody.

A warrant was issued against him in Lakhimpur Kheri's Mohammadi, in a case registered against him in September 2021, after a complaint was filed by a Sudarshan News employee for a fact check tweet.

While he was presented before the court through video conferencing from Sitapur Jail. Sections 153B, 505(1)(B), 505(2) were added to the FIR against him.

Earlier, Zubair was arrested by the Delhi Police on June 27 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through one of his tweets.

The Supreme Court granted him a five-day interim bail in connection with an FIR lodged against him in Sitapur district, given that he would remain in custody as per the order of a Delhi court in another case.

The court further clarified that its interim bail order is with respect to the First Information Report(FIR) lodged in Sitapur and is not in regard with a separate case registered against the journalist in Delhi.
