Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said the state government was constituting a backward class commission afresh. Khattar announced this during state level celebrations of Baba Makhan Shah Labana and Baba Lakhi Shah Vanjara held in Kurukshetra.
Addressing those present, Khattar said the new commission will act as a custodian for backward class communities, especially related to their issues as well as benefits meant for both the categories of backward classes.The commission will also help the community to avail certain state and centrally sponsored welfare schemes.
Khattar said Lohgarh, the capital of Baba Banda Singh, will be developed and the inclusion of Baba Lakhi Shah Vanjara’s name will also be ensured. “Some people of this community come under scheduled castes and some are in backward class. We have written to the central government, forwarding the community’s demands,” he said.
The CM appealed to those who are more vulnerable in society to be included in scheduled castes. Khattar also announced that a community centre will be built in the name of Lakhi Shah Vanjara in the municipality of Kurukshetra.
Khattar also directed deputy commissioners that any square, community centre or educational institution in the district, where the people of the community live, should be named after Baba Makhan Shah Labana and Baba Lakhi Shah Vanjara.
Khattar said Vanjara community was hardworking and sincere. “As living in a different culture in the whole country, this society is maintaining its unique identity,” he said.
On this occasion, minister of state for sports Sandeep Singh, MP Naib Singh Saini, MLA Subhash Sudha and others were also present.
