Thane: In the last 24 hours, 7 trees and 11 tree branches were uprooted in different parts of the Thane. In the early morning on Monday, July 11 a large tree fall on a car parked on the road in the Kalwa damaging the car badly. It also caused traffic congestion between Kalwa to Mumbra for three hours.
Avinash Sawant, Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief, Thane said, "We received a call in the disaster management room about a large tree falling on the car parked on the road in front of Rajdeep Hotel in Kharegaon area of Kalwa at around 4 am on Monday. Soon after receiving the information, the staff of the disaster management cell, the tree authority department, the staff of the Torrent electricity department, the Kalwa traffic police personnel and the fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and cut down the tree. During the operation, the road was closed for three hours. This route is less congested in the morning. Also, traffic on both sides was being diverted from the sidewalk and this caused traffic jams."
Sawant added, "Although no one was injured in the incident, the car was badly damaged. Also, 7 to 8 trees on the premises of the government rest house in Thane are in a dangerous condition. The trees have not yet been pruned and a complaint has been lodged with the Disaster Management Cell."
