Porvorim: Rebel Congress MLA Michael Lobo on Monday criticised the state government for having missed hosting the National Games once again, even as he said that facilities worth crores of rupees that were built for the event have been lying idle. Further stating that the police had failed to control drug trafficking in the state, he demanded the constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to tackle the menace.
“The chief minister should form and monitor an SIT to curb the drug menace. He will get results within six months,” Lobo said.
The Calangute MLA, who was participating in the discussion on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address, said the speech failed to address the state’s teething issues, particularly the difficulties of most small businessmen who have been in the doldrums following the Covid-19 pandemic.
He even claimed that properties owned by the state tourism department have been sold at “wholesale prices”, and demanded a resolution to the Mhadei water diversion issue in the interest of the state’s future.
