Ludhiana: The residents in Haibowal and adjoining localities can heave a sigh of relief as civic officials have shifted a garbage dump at the entrance of the area on Saturday. For almost three years, the residents, especially the students living in a hostel located at the backside of dump, were troubled by the dump and the foul smell all around. The dump was at the bank of Buddha Nullah. The officials claimed that it has been closed permanently and garbage would be shifted to nearby dumps.
The dump had come at the bank of drain from roadside when Congress MLA Rakesh Pandey had protested on July 26, 2019. For three years, this dump had become an eye sore for residents.
Now, when the dump is being removed the officials have plans to construct road at this side as well. There are certain encroachments coming in way and those will be removed. Last Saturday too the MC officials had removed some encroachments and road will come from Bajwa Nagar bridge to get connected here.
A resident of Haibowal Kumar Gaurav said the dump caused traffic jams in the area
Meanwhile, the nodal officer of health branch Ashwani Sahota said, “The dump has been shifted from here due to the orders of MC commissioner. The garbage will be divided among dumps nearby.”
However, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Madan Lal Bagga who claimed it to be a fruit of his efforts said, “I had been in touch with officials for a long time and now finally it is closed. Nobody will throw garbage here.”
There is ban on throwing garbage in Buddha Nullah or any other water body. tnn
