The biscuit pack mentioned it should be consumed five months after packing
HAVERI: Some students allegedly have consumed expired biscuits given to them at the post-matric hostel in Ranebennur of Haveri district.
They were served the biscuits on Friday evening. When some students realised the biscuits were well past their expiry date, they stopped eating them.
All the students are safe.
According to sources, in the post-matric hostel run by the department of social welfare, students have been getting biscuits for evening snacks every day. But, on Friday, they were given the expired biscuits.
“The biscuits should be used within five months from the packed date, but these packs served to us on Friday were packed in August 2021. So, these biscuit packs are valid for consumption up to January 2022, but hostel authorities are serving expired biscuits to students,” shared a student residing in the hostel.
When contacted, hostel warden PH Nadaf denied that they served expired biscuits in the hostel.
“Not only at the Ranebennur post-matric hostel, may poor students who are residing in different hostels run by the department of social welfare in the district are given expired biscuits. Higher authorities have been blind about such issues,” alleged SFI Haveri district coordinator Basavaraj Bhovi.
