Around 5.34 lakh students have been enrolled at the classes from class one to class 8 in government schools
TRICHY: Admissions to government and aided schools touched 9 lakh this year following the government's efforts to improve infrastructure there, said school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Saturday.
Around 50,000 students have been admitted to kindergarten classes this year, he told reporters in Thanjavur. The minister was speaking to reporters after inspecting the ongoing works to establish stalls for book fair to be held on the premises of Thanjavur palace. "We have asked experienced teachers to take care of the students. Steps to appoint special teachers are progressing. Full fledged classes will resume after the appointment of special teachers," said the minister.
"Around 5.34 lakh students have been enrolled at the classes from class one to class 8 in government schools. It would come around 7 lakh when we consider the government aided schools as well. If we include classes 9 to 12, the total number of students who took admissions this year will come around 9 lakh," he added.
The minister urged students to wear face masks, use sanitiser and undergo test if they suffer from fever in the backdrop of increase in Covid cases. School authorities have been asked to follow standard operation procedure without fail.
The government is taking steps to provide coaching classes to 16,000 students who have applied for the NEET this year and also continuing its legal battle to cancel the examination, he added.
