KOLKATA: A 22-year-old app cab driver, returning home after celebrating Eid at a relative’s place, was killed when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a stationary bus parked on Rajathat main road at Langolpota, around 10kms from Vedic Village on Sunday afternoon.
There were no other passengers in the car, but such was the impact of the accident that the sedan vehicle was reduced to a mangled mass and the driver, Maqsud Ali Gazi had to be pulled out by cops and locals cutting open the door with an iron rod and shovel.
He was taken to a local hospital and from there to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, 16 kms away, where he was declared dead on arrival by an attending doctor.
Cops suspect Gazi had possibly dozed off while driving at a high speed in the middle of heavy rain when he veered off the road and rammed into the bus of route 211 from behind. He was returning to his home at Atghara from the relative’s place in Sashon.
