MYSURU: Nanjangud villagers on Saturday staged a flash protest blocking a road after a girl student was seriously injured when the footboard of a KSRTC bus gave in. Some others have also been injured in the incident.
Nanjangud police said the 20-year-old girl has suffered injury in her stomach, while a few others traveling on the footboard sustained minor bruises.
The villagers criticised the KSRTC authorities for not running buses frequently, leading to the incident. Police have taken up a case against the authorities charging them with negligence leading to a road accident.
Nanjangud police said the incident happened near Valagere village around 11am and the students were standing on the footboard of the rear door of the bus. The bus stopped soon after it collapsed. A case has been taken up following a complaint from two students.
Puttaswamy, a villager, said students from Malkundi, Hura, Ballur Hundi, Ambale and Aginavalu, and Valagere face difficulty as bus trips are not frequent and adequate. Because of this, there will be a heavy rush during each trip, prompting passengers to crowd even on footboards. He urged the government to ply good-quality buses to rural places.
