PANAJI: The Communist Party of India’s (CPI) Goa unit said that instead of providing relief to the common people and entrepreneurs, BJP is engaged in “blatant mockery of democracy”. At a recent meeting, CPI Goa state council condemned the “double engine sarkar’s” anti-people policies and called upon all the “toiling masses” to fight against BJP’s pro-corporate economic policies.
CPI said the increase in domestic cooking gas prices along with hike in fuel rates has had a cascading effect on all daily consumption items. “Instead of providing relief , the so-called double engine sarkar of BJP is engaged in the toppling game of non-BJP governments. In the course of these activities, crores of rupees are spent on horse-trading of elected MPs and MLAs with ill-gotten money through the secretive, opaque and unaccounted election bonds. This is a blatant mockery of democracy,” CPI national council member Christopher Fonseca said.
CPI also blamed the state government for succumbing to pressure from the casino industry while pleading for relaxations for onshore and off-shore casinos. “It’s shameful that a ‘group of minister’s meeting’ on GST should take a call to save the gambling industry such as horse-racing, casinos and online gaming for their services,” Fonseca said.
CPI also called BJP’s promise of three free gas cylinders to Goan voters a ‘pie in the sky’.
