LUCKNOW: In a major breakthrough, Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF) arrested
Majid Khan (34) facing Interpol red notice from near Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Sunday.
STF said that Majid was hiding in Kathmandu from eight years and on Sunday via Royal Nepal airlines had reached Delhi while planning to flee to Saudi Arabia.
"Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender. We were tracking Majid from last one year and on information that he was in Delhi a team was sent which nabbed him," said Prashant Kumar, Additional Director General, law and order.
Kumar, said that Majid was wanted in connection with five cases including that of attempt to murder from Azamgarh and Jaunpur districts of the state.
"In March 2017, a red corner notice was issued against him. In 2016, on a forged passport Majid had visited Saudi Arabia which was prepared on forged documents from Jaunpur. Thereafter, in 2019 a look out circular was also issued against, Majid" said Kumar.
STF said that Majid ventured into crime after he along with his aide Nadeem had shot dead one Tariq and looted his bike in 2013 in Azamgarh. Thereafter, he has been involved in running extortion rackets.
