Thiruvananthapuram: A four-day old male baby suffered a skull fracture after falling down from a radiant warmer at Neyyattinkara taluk hospital on Saturday.
The district medical officer (DMO) has sought a report on the incident from the superintendent of the hospital. The baby has been shifted to SAT hospital and the doctors said his condition is stable.
However, the parents alleged that it was due to the negligence of healthcare workers that the baby fell down from the treatment bed.
The baby of Suresh, a native of Kanjiramkulam, had jaundice during the birth and was undergoing phototherapy treatment in a radiant warmer when fell down. The lab technicians were collecting blood from the baby for serum analysis while the baby was lying on the radiant warmer.
But the hospital authorities denied the allegations of the parents. “It was not due to negligence that the baby fell as it happened in the blink of an eye and they could not do anything. When scanned, we spotted a minor fracture on the skull, and it is not severe. Since the bones are softer, the baby will soon recover,” said Neyyattinkara taluk hospital superintendent Dr Valsala.
The doctors of SAT hospital said that the condition of the baby is improving and there is nothing to worry about his health.
