KOLKATA: A gift parcel containing a shawl, silver coin, wrist watch and other valuables sent to MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, by an organisation in Mumbai, went missing before delivery to his home in Kolkata prompting the MP to lodge a police complaint leading to arrest of three persons including the concerned delivery executive. The parcel however is yet to be recovered.
Police said the parcel was sent through a courier agency on June 30. The Mumbai organisation had sent similar parcels to two other dignitaries in Patna and Chennai, both of whom had received the parcel by July 4. But it didn’t reach Bandyopadhyay’s residence in central Kolkata.
His assistant Bholanath Dey lodged a complaint about it at Taltala police station. Police said the agency has shared some CCTV footage with them that shows the package was loaded on the train on time but it wasn’t brought down at Shalimar station. Cops arrested three courier executives responsible for the safety of the package in Kolkata and on transit -- Dipanjan Sen, Ankit Singh and Guddu Singh and have brought them in police custody. They are being questioned for the whereabouts of the package.
