In another incident of a ropeway cable car being stuck mid-air, at least 60 people, including a BJP MLA from Uttarakhand, were stranded for 45 minutes due to a technical glitch at Surkanda Devi Temple ropeway in Tehri district.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Tehri Garhwal SSP Navneet Bhullar said that the Surkanda Devi temple ropeway was halted for 20 to 25 mins due to a technical fault in the trolley.
"All the passengers have come out safely and the ropeway is now running smoothly. No passenger is trapped in the trolley," SSP Navneet Bhullar further said.
Meanwhile, speaking about the incident, Uttarakhand BJP MLA Kishore Upadhyay said that the ropeway becoming stranded in mid-air is a very serious issue. "We cannot put anyone's life in jeopardy. I'll discuss it with the ropeway operators and the concerned authorities," he said, adding that the administration should make certain that such an incident does not occur again.
In a similar incident that took place in Jharkhand's Deoghar district, at least 15 people were stuck in the cable car mid-air who were later rescued with military efforts in over 40 hours. Three people also died in the incident.
