RAJKOT: A man, resident of Bhavnagar Road in Rajkot, was booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for allegedly killing a dog and injuring another one.
Police booked Murtuza Vora based on a complaint filed by Bhavin Dhiyad, an animal rights activist on Friday night. Dhiyad lodged the complaint with the B Division police station after a video of Vora allegedly beating a dog went viral on social media. Vora has also been booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 428.
According to the complaint, Dhiyad saw the video of Vora allegedly beating a dog on one of the WhatsApp groups on July 3. In the video, Vora is seen thrashing a dog and a puppy. Dhiyad along with other dog lovers reached the spot where the video was recorded. On inquiring with the locals it was revealed that on the night of July 2, Vora lost his temper after dogs tore his car’s cover. He allegedly beat up the dogs with a stick in which a female dog died and the puppy was severely injured.
It was admitted to the nearby animal care centre. The neighbours had also informed the police control room about this incident on the same day.
Dhiyad then approached the police station and submitted an application with the request to book Vora for committing cruelty to dogs. The police after investigation registered an FIR against Vora on Friday night.
