Mangaluru: Aisamma Shekamale,106, from Ariyadka village in Puttur, passed away on Friday.
According to Siddique Kumbra, her grandson, Aisamma was active until the last three days of her life.
A conscientious voter
She has been exercising her franchise, ever since the voting system was introduced, and never misses an election, be it for the gram panchayat or general elections. She would encourage people to vote.
Though not a freedom fighter, she knew about the struggle for Indian Independence. A lot of people used to come home to listen to her, he said. She was the mother of 14 children, of whom five are living. She is blessed with 45 grandchildren, and 118 great-grandchildren, and she has seen 15 members of the fifth generation of her family.
Her mother lived till the age of 105, Siddique said.
