South African radio legend Kevin Savage has died. He was 69

Hot102.7FM confirmed Savage died on Saturday afternoon after battling cancer.

Former colleague and South African news anchor Doreen Morris remembered Savage for his "golden voice," his sense of humour, and having worked with the radio legend at the same time she worked wit late film critic, and columnist Barry Ronge, who died on 3 July.

"As a teen I was hooked to his Music Power Half Hour on 5fm. In my 20’s he gave me my 1st job in commercial radio at Kfm," Ian Bredenkamp wrote on Twitter. "Kevin had an iconic voice, literally + figuratively. Thanks for the great songs."

"Gutted to hear the news that Kevin Savage died," tweeted Martin Slabbert. "He made me fall in love with radio and it was a singular honor to be able to work with him. Thanks for the great memories Sav."
