Gumla: A few unidentified anti-social elements tried to create communal disharmony in the Lohardaga district on Saturday by throwing prohibited meat outside a temple ahead of Bakri Eid scheduled to be celebrated on Sunday. Swinging into action immediately after learning about the incident, Lohardaga SP R Ramkumar said a meeting of the local peace committee, comprising members of all communities, was held and all agreed to work for peace and harmony.
Officials said around 7 am, a few villagers reportedly spotted a piece of prohibited meat outside the temple at Rampur village located 7 km from the district headquarters.
Lohardaga DC Vaghmare Prasad Krishna said, “The administration promptly handled the situation in the village. We are maintaining a vigil. Forces have also been deployed in all sensitive areas in the district given today’s incident and tomorrow’s festival.” He also said the meat has been sent to a forensic lab to determine the animal. A police official added, “An FIR has been lodged and a probe is on.”
Notably, the district was on tenterhooks following violent clashes during Ram Navami this year. Since then, the administration has initiated certain measures like the Sadbhavna cricket tournament, bicycle rally and other activities, involving the youths of all communities in the district, to restore peace.
