YAMUNANAGAR: Two weeks after Renu Bala, Congress MLA from Sadhaura constituency in Yamunanagar district, received a threat to life, the police registered a case on Friday.
On the complaint of Ravi Ranjan, personal assistant of MLA Bala, the police registered a case against unknown person under Section 384 (punishment for extortion), 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), and 511 (attempt to commit offence punishable with imprisonment for life or other) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Jagadhri City police station on Friday.
In his complaint, Ravi Ranjan said a WhatsApp call came on the mobile number of MLA Bala and the caller informed that somebody is conspiring to kill her.
"Caller demanded Rs 1 lakh in the account number that he would share and he would give more information about the conspiracy. The caller said he is in foreign country and he does not have money even to eat and will do your work only after receiving money. He also sent several messages later. Accused person is demanding money on the basis of false information", said Ravi Ranjan.
After the incident, Bala had hit out at the Haryana government by saying that, "If people's representatives are not feeling safe, we could well imagine the plight of the general public."
During her visit to Yamunanagar on Friday, senior Congress leader Kumari Selja had also raised questions on the law and order situation in Haryana and hit out by saying that, "Several MLAs of Haryana received threats but the government so far failed to get any clue".
Reacting to the media query on the threats to MLA, Haryana home minister Anil Vij said, "Threats have come to three leaders from a single foreign number of Dubai, and we have handed over the case to STF (special task force Haryana). We will investigate these cases and will not spare the accused person."
