BHUBANESWAR: Cyber crooks allegedly attempted to dupe colleagues of development commissioner Pradeep Jena by using a photograph from his WhatsApp number and sending messages requesting financial help.
Jena, who ranks second among senior IAS officers in the state after the chief secretary, tweeted on Friday: “Someone using my photograph in the WhatsApp profile is sending messages to some people asking for financial help. I would like to inform all that the mobile number 7320937877 from which such messages are being sent doesn’t belong to me. It is a fake WhatsApp account set in my name to possibly defraud people. You are hereby requested to not act on any such request for financial favours.”
He learnt about the attempted fraud when some of those who received the distressed messages on WhatsApp from the number carrying his photograph drew his attention.
