COIMBATORE: Members of
Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the corporation office against stray dog menace.
The protesters raised slogans against corporation officials and accused them of not acting on the complaints of residents.
A large posse of police personnel deployed at the spot urged the protesters to leave as the protest was causing traffic snarls on Big Bazaar Road. Police detained some of them and released them later.
Although residents across the city are troubled by dog menace, it is severe in Ukkadam and surrounding areas, a protester said. “Recently, a college student fell from his bike and a child suffered fractures after chased by dogs. Two days ago, stray dogs mauled two sheep. Corporation officials took no action,” he said.
The protest was led by SDPI district president A Mustafa and district general secretary Abdul Khader.
