LUDHIANA: Arrested for dropping three suspected shooters of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala to Bathinda in his car, Satbir Singh of Amritsar was assaulted by a group of fellow jail inmates at Ludhiana central jail, Tajpur road on Saturday.
Importantly, the Ludhiana police had already asked the jail authorities to keep him separate from the other inmates sensing the sensitivity of the case.

Satbir Singh was given first aide at the jail hospital and then was taken to the Ludhiana Civil Hospital. Satbir was arrested by Ludhiana police in June 30 with an illegal pistol.
The Deputy Superintendent at Ludhiana Central Jail, Satnam Singh Bhatti said, “Satbir Singh was lodged in the high security cells along another accused of Sidhu Moose Wala case, Baldev Chaudhary. On Saturday evening, he was near the cells when some unidentified inmates attacked with with a sharp edged weapon. Satbir suffered a head injury and an injury on his leg. His condition is stable.”

Deputy Superintendent said that Satbir was not able to identify the inmates who attacked him. Therefore a complaint against unidentified inmates is being sent to the concerned police station for the registration of a case.
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (investigation) Varinder Singh Brar said, “Satbir was sent in Judicial custody on Friday only. While sending him to the jail, we had specially asked the local jail authorities to keep him separate from other inmates due to the sensitivity of the case. Attack on him in the jail is definitely an act of negligence of the jail authority.”
