A 9-year-old girl studying in Std IV of an ashram shala in Zai, in Talasari, died under mysterious circumstances on Saturday afternoon.
Ashima Mittal, Project Officer, Dahanu which runs the ashram shala said the victim complained of headache and was taken to a hospital on Friday and some medicines were given. "But on Saturday morning, while she was having breakfast a piece of boiled egg got stuck in her mouth and a lady worker removed the stuck piece but soon she became unconscious," said Mittal. She was first rushed to the Primary Health Centre(PHC) at Gholwad and then later shifted to the Cottage Hospital, Dahanu where she was declared dead before admission.
"We are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of the death and the Gholwad police are probing the case," said Mittal.
"Meanwhile around 7 to 8 students suffered anxiety attacks and are admitted to the Cottage Hospital Dahanu and two medical teams are supervising the case as the students got anxious to witness the 9-year-old boarder's death who was their school mate," said the official.
