Canning: 40 hours after three Trinamool Congress leaders were killed at Canning in South 24 Parganas, one Aftabuddin Shiekh was arrested by the police.
According to Baruipur District police sources, though the main miscreants are still absconding, Aftabuddin while being quizzed has accepted that he worked as the informer of the main miscreants.
It can be noted that though Aftafuddin was not among the six persons named in the FIR filed on Friday but was one of the suspects. Prime suspect in the case Rafiqul and others directly involved in the murder are still absconding.
“Aftabuddin on the day of incident informed the whereabouts of the three deceased TMC leaders. He also planned the way that the killings were executed. On producing before the session court he has been given police custody till July 16,” said an officer from the SIT formed to probe the incident on Friday.
However, the wife of Aftabuddin said that her husband is ‘innocent’ and other TMC leaders are ‘framing’ him.
“My husband is also from TMC and is innocent. He is being framed by other TMC leaders,” alleged Aftabuddin’s wife.
TMC Canning (EAST) MLA Shaukat Molla said that the miscreants are given shelter by BJP.
“There is no infighting within TMC. If Aftabuddin was a TMC worker he would have never killed or been part of the killings of TMC leaders. The miscreants are given shelter by BJP,” said Molla.
It can be noted that three TMC workers including a member of local gram panchayat were shot dead on Thursday morning. Swapan Majhi, Trinamool member of Gopalpur gram panchayat along with two booth presidents Bhutnath Pramanik and Jhantu Haldar were killed by unidentified people dressed as farmers.
